Customer-centric propulsion

Purpose-built azimuth propulsion systems that perform when it matters most

Our systems combine performance, dependability, and efficiency to keep vessels in operation while ensuring the lowest possible lifecycle costs without compromising capability.

Founded in 2000 by propulsion specialists, Steerprop was built on the belief that ship propulsion should be designed around the operator's mission. With deep hydrodynamic expertise and a heritage of more than 50 years in propulsion design, we create solutions that meet strict delivery schedules, cost requirements, and performance targets.

Our story

From Rauma to every ocean

In this video, our CEO Riku-Pekka Hägg and Co-Founder Jarmo Savikurki share the story behind Steerprop — from the early challenges to becoming a trusted partner in Arctic and demanding conditions worldwide.

Based in Rauma, Finland — the birthplace of modern thruster technology — Steerprop's reputation was forged in the Arctic. Today, one in three icebreakers worldwide relies on our azimuth propulsion systems, many of which have operated for more than 15 years without major overhauls.

Proven in the Arctic. Trusted Worldwide.

Innovation

Setting new standards in marine propulsion

Our drive for optimal propulsion inspires continuous innovation. From contra-rotating propeller systems and advanced sealing solutions to ice-class tunnel thrusters without grid restrictions and ergonomic control systems — we set new benchmarks for reliability and performance.

We invest heavily in R&D to advance efficient and sustainable marine propulsion, both in-house and through collaborative research projects.
