Steerprop Basic Philosophy
- Outstanding Lifetime Economy

Performance

Propulsor efficiency and performance have an influence on both vessel performance - e.g. speed and bollard pull - and fuel consumption. Vessel performance and fuel consumption again have an impact on the total life cycle economy - through vessel operation and fuel economy.

Steerprop Azimuth Propulsors are available with both ducted and contra-rotating propellers suitable for a wide range of applications and operation requirements.

A Steerprop dual-end CRP propulsor

For vessels with a requirement on bollard pull, e.g. harbour tugs, river pushers and AHTS vessels ducted propellers is the best solution. The nozzle used by Steerprop is the new high performance HJ3 type nozzle, of Steerprops own design. It combines increased bollard pull with better free running efficiency, giving an improved overall performance. The increase in bollard pull is 8 …10% and in high-speed efficiency approximately 15%, compared to a traditional 19A type nozzle. (for more information on the HJ3 nozzle please visit the products info page)

For vessels that operates mostly in free running conditions Steerprop propulsors with Contra-Rotating Propeller (CRP) may offer the ideal solution, enabling a saving in fuel consupmtion of even more than 20%.

The Steerprop CRP has a new type of dual-end configuration, which together with a sophisticated hydrodynamic design of the underwater parts, provides a higher efficiency than any other propulsor. (for more information on the dual-end CRP please visit the products info page)
