Steerprop Basic Philosophy
- Outstanding Lifetime Economy

Reliability

Reliability is the single most important factor for vessel operators and thus a lot of effort has been put to make Steerprop the most reliable azimuth propulsor available. Reliability has also an immense impact on the total life cycle economy.

Thus, reliability has always been kept in mind during the total process of designing and constructing of the Steerprop azimuth propulsor.

E.g. the number of components and parts has been kept to a minimum, making the construction as simple and fail-proof as possible.

Extensive use of 3-D modelling technique in the design process as well as elaborate FEM-analysis to achieve the required strength and sturdiness are parts of the process of creating a reliable product.

All components used in the assembly are carefully selected, keeping reliability, simplicity and availability as the basic criterions.

Improved dependability is also achieved through preventive maintenance and test sampling, as well as diagnostics and condition monitoring. This is achieved utilising the latest bus and PLC technology in the control system.

Reliability is also improved by enhancing vessel operation. This is achieved by using the latest development in human engineering and ergonomics and implementing it in the design of the control system and wheelhouse layout - the main purpose being a user-friendly and efficient environment for the vessel master.
