Steerprop HJ-3 High Performance Nozzle
Combining High Bollard Pull with Free
Running Efficiency

The
test nozzle during manufacturing
|
Key Features
In
the design of the inner surface the following
key features have been utilised:
-
A
gradually expanding diffusor increases the
flow acceleration in the nozzle. This can
be seen in the high propeller pitch ratio
and in a significantly higher nozzle thrust
compared to nozzles with small or no diffusor
angle.
-
The
longitudinal
position of the propeller is within the
diffusor. This has been found to increase
the nozzle thrust.
-
The
inner diameter of the nozzle is equal to
that of the propeller. This increases the
effective surface of the nozzle

|
The
outer surface has been designed utilizing the
following features:
- The
outer surface of the nozzle has a hydrofoil
shape. This prevents flow separation in all
operation conditions, giving a distinghuised
difference in resistance, compared to straight-back
type nozzles.
- A
large nose radius on the profile, which reduces
the pressure peak and prevents separation.
- A
thick trailing edge, which reduces the difference
in power absorbtion between bollard pull and
free running condition
