Steerprop builds biggest ever Azimuth propulsors
Steerprop Ltd. was chosen by two separate Russian operators of arctic vessels, to provide the largest ever built mechanical azimuth propulsors. The order is for the total of four ice breakers, currently under construction: two at Baltiysky Zavod in St. Petersburg, Russia for RosMorPort and the other two at Keppel Singmarine in Singapore for Lukoil.

GPA 640 PSV "Orleans" commssioned by Rigdon
Marine
Orleans,
the first of a new class of 10 diesel-electric Steerprop
equipped platform supply vessels (PSV) was recently
commissioned by Rigdon Marine, New Orleans, Louisiana.
The
vessel class was designed by Guido Perla & Associates
in Seattle, Washington and built by Bender Shipbuilding
& Repair in Mobile, Alabama.

Upgraded Fairway Service Vessel Seili Commissioned
The
Finnish State Shipping Enterprise recently commissioned
the rebuilt and modified fairway maintenance vessel
Seili. The vessel was lengthened and modified into
an efficient oil spill response vessel at the shipyard
of Aslemetals in Olkiluoto close to Rauma, Finland.
The
modification works included a total rebuild of the
propulsion system and comprised the installation
of two Steerprop SP 25 units as a part of the new
diesel-electric propulsion system.

First Russian
Steerprop Vessel Commissioned
Makhachkala
Port in Dagestan, Russian Federation, recently commissioned
the first Russian built vessel with Steerprop propulsion,
the harbour tug Flagman.
The
tug was built by JSC Pella Shipyard in ST. Petersburg.
The tug is equipped with twin Steerprop SP 10 units,
constructed to Russian ice class LU3. The engine
power of the tug is 2 x 533 kW.

SP 25 Propulsors Installed on Seili
Former
Buoy-tender vessel Seili got its new propulsion
units installed late November 2003.
The
open-propeller Steerprop SP 25 units - built to
Swedish-Finnish ice-class
1A - installed, are a part of an extensive modification
of the vessel. The
modification work includes hull lengthening and
modernizing as well as exchange of the total propulsion
system to a diesel-electrically propelled twin Steerprop
installation.
The
vessel is currently being modified at Aslemetals
shipyard in Olkiluoto close to Rauma, Finland.

Tested
The Steerprop SP 25 units to be installed as

Delivered Edda Fonn for Østensjø
Østensjø
Rederi AS in Haugesund, Norway, recently commissioned
the taylor made 2800 dwt ROV / Survey vessel Edda
Fonn. The vessel - of the type ST-253 - was
designed by Skipsteknisk AS in Aalesund and built
by Myklebust Verft AS, a shipyard belonging to Kleven
Maritime.

First Steerprop Vessel "M.P.S. River Aria" started
operations
Early
August 2001 was the first Steerprop shipset, a pair
of SP 10 CRPs, delivered to Scheepswerf De Hoop
Lobith. Only a week after the installation the river
cruise vessel "M.P.S. River Aria" conducted its
sea trials successfully and was commissioned to
its owners, Grand Circle Cruise Lines of Boston,
USA.
