Steerprop
Ltd. recently won the order to provide two Steerprop
SP 35 CRP propulsors for a purpose built ROV
survey vessel, under construction for Østensjø
Rederi AS at Myklebust Verft AS.
The
vessel is designed by Skipsteknisk AS in Aalesund,
Norway.

The vessel is to be delivered in April 2003,
and will upon delivery commence a 3 year contract
with DeepOcean and Norsk Hydro. The initial
operation area will probably be the Norwegian
Sea (off mid Norway).
The
vessel will be equipped with a diesel-electric
propulsion system. Two primary movers, each
of 2200 kW will drive the Steerprop units, designed
and classified for a continuous power of 2560
kW. The propulsors are equipped with contra-rotating
propellers of Steerprop configuration, providing
excellent thrust and fuel efficiency. The propeller
diameters are 3.5 m (fwd) and 2.8 m (aft).

The vessel is specially designed for operation
in all waters conditions and with excellent
manoeuverability and station keeping capabilities.
The vessel will be outfitted and prepared
for the following duties:
-ROV operations like pipeline/route survey
-Sub-sea
installation works
-Mother vessel for AUV/UUV operations
-Geo-technical investigation surveys

Østensjø
Rederi AS
is one of the oldest Norwegian ship owner within offshore
supply and service vessels. The company was established
in 1973 and have since ordered 25 newbuildings. The
company is also heavy involved in tug services and
operate today 16 tugs.

outside Aalesund on the West Coast of Norway, founded
in 1915 is part of Kleven Maritime.

and sophisticated vessels. The specialization includes
all kinds of fishing vessels, fishery research vessels,
oceanographic and seismic research vessels, train-
and passenger ferries, general oil-related offshore

The company carry out comprehensive design work including
complete workshop drawings based on advanced computer
systems.
