Steerprop - The Azimuth Propulsion Company

Reliability is the key

Few things are more important than safety and reliability to ship operators and owners. It is important to be able to trust the ship and its machinery regardless of the operating conditions. For this reason each and every Steerprop Azimuth Propulsor undergoes vigorous testing in form of the Factory Acceptance Test at the Steerprop Assembly Hall before they are accepted for delivery

The Steerprop Factory Acceptance Test consists of:

  • Teeth contact pattern Inspection, both unloaded and loaded with full nominal torque for all gear sets
  • Running Test, where the propulsor is driven at the nomimal RPM until the lubrication and cooling oil reaches 75 degrees Celsius
  •  Control System Test, the propulsor is controlled by the same delivery’s control system during the running test, during which all sub-systems of the control system are inspected to ensure full integration and operation

Steerprop Azimuth Propulsors are kept as simple as possible in their construction for ease of service and to eliminate breakage due to overcomplicated moving components.  With constant feedback from owners, ship operators, shipyard and naval architects, Steerprop Ltd. meticulously selects the components used, based on their quality and worldwide availability.
